What is a pre-nuptial agreement?

A: A pre-nuptial agreement is a document that describes what will happen to any marital property, what child support will be paid, and what will happen to the children of the marriage in the event that the marriage ends. The end of a marriage can be brought about by divorce or the death of a spouse. In the event of a death, a pre-nuptial agreement can supplement a will in describing what property and assets the surviving spouse will receive.
